Food is one of the first vocabulary topics in every language, and colouring it is a fun way to learn the words. More about this collection

Food pages are great for talk about healthy eating without lecturing. Ask which foods are fruits and which are vegetables, which ones grow on trees, and what your child would put on their perfect pizza. The drawing lessons for strawberries, pears, watermelons and cakes are some of the easiest on the site.

Teachers can use food pages for sorting, counting and shopping games: colour five apples and three pears, then add them up, or set up a pretend market with prices on each picture. Older children can design a menu or a healthy plate after colouring, which links nicely to science and health topics.

How to use these

  1. Name each food out loud while colouring: it builds vocabulary.
  2. Sort pages into fruit, vegetables and treats.
  3. Try a drawing lesson next: food shapes are simple to draw.
