Easy Colouring Pages for Toddlers: Big, Simple Pictures
- Ages 2–5
- Ready to print
- Many play on screen
Toddlers do not colour inside the lines, and they should not have to. What they need is a single, big, recognisable picture with thick outlines: a sun, a ball, a duck, an apple. Every page in this collection has one object on a clean background, so there is nothing fiddly to worry about and plenty of space for big, happy scribbles.
Our picks
Popular sheets first. Every one can be printed; most can also be played on screen with instant marking.
Activity books
Themed workbooks that collect many pages in one printable book.
More about this collection
Colouring at this age is about naming things, choosing colours and enjoying the movement. Sit with your child, name the picture together, talk about the colours they choose and praise what they did rather than how neat it is. Chunky crayons or washable markers are easier to hold than thin pencils.
Each picture is also a word: say it, point to it, find the real object at home. That is why many of these pages come from our picture dictionary, which links each picture to the word in ten languages.
How to use these
- Offer two or three colours at a time, not the whole box.
- Name the picture and its sounds: “a duck says quack!”
- Stick finished pages at child height so they can show them off.

Questions and answers
At what age can a child start colouring?
Many children enjoy scribbling with chunky crayons from around 18 months to 2 years. Recognisable colouring usually comes later, around 3 or 4.
Which crayons are best for toddlers?
Thick, short crayons or washable markers are easiest to grip. Always supervise young children with art materials.
Are these printables free?
You can try them with a free account: it includes a few prints and plays, with no card needed. A Family or Teacher plan gives you unlimited printing and playing, plus every premium item.
How do I print a sheet?
Open a sheet and choose Print. It fits A4 and US Letter paper. Most sheets can also print with an answer key on a separate page.
Can children do them on a tablet?
Most can: press Play to answer on screen with instant marking and stars. Colouring and drawing pages can be done with a finger or stylus too.
