Animal Colouring Pages: Free Printables for Kids

  • Ages 3–10
  • Free to print
  • Many play on screen

Animals are the colouring favourite in almost every home and classroom, and this collection has plenty: cats and dogs, farm animals, lions and giraffes, penguins, owls, insects and sea creatures. The simplest pages show one animal with thick outlines, perfect for toddlers; the scenes show animals in their habitats, with more detail for older children who like to take their time.

More about this collection

Colouring can be a little science lesson too. Ask where the animal lives, what it eats and what sound it makes. Older children can write the animal’s name on the page or look up one fact about it before they start.

Many pages come from our picture dictionary, so the same animals appear in flashcards, word searches and I spy puzzles. Colouring an animal first and then finding its name in a puzzle is a simple way to connect pictures, words and spelling. If you teach a habitat topic, sort the pages by where the animals live: farm, jungle, ocean, polar regions and the garden.

How to use these

  1. Choose single-animal pages for ages 3–5 and habitat scenes for older children.
  2. Talk about real animal colours, or invite a purple lion: both are fine.
  3. Pair a colouring page with a how-to-draw lesson of the same animal.
