Terms of use
Last updated: 17 October 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Crayonbird for using Crayonbird. Please read them together with our privacy policy. By creating an account or using the site, you agree to them. If you use Crayonbird for a school or organisation, you confirm you are allowed to accept these terms for it.
The short version
- Grown-ups (18 and over) create accounts. Teens can have their own account from age 13. Younger children use Crayonbird through a parent or a teacher.
- Keep it kind and safe: no personal details in shared or saved work, and no misuse.
- Printables are for your family, your classes and your own students, not for resale.
- Teachers who share sheets keep ownership and share them under a free licence. Anyone can report a problem.
- The free plan needs no card and includes a small free allowance to try Crayonbird. Paid plans (when available) are paid by card, renew automatically until you cancel, and you can cancel online at any time. You can get a full refund within 7 days of your first payment, as long as no paid content has been used.
- Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under consumer law.

2. Who can use Crayonbird, and accounts
- Grown-ups: parents, carers, teachers and tutors must be 18 or over to create an account.
- Teens: teens aged 13 to 18 can create their own Brainteen account. If the law where you live requires a parent’s permission at your age, a parent or carer must create a family account and add you instead. A parent can follow a teen’s progress only with the teen’s approval.
- Children under 13 can’t have their own account. They use Crayonbird through a profile created by their parent or carer, who is responsible for it, or through a class login created by their teacher.
- Teachers must have permission from their school (or, for private tutoring, from the students’ parents) to add students, and should add first names or nicknames only.
Give accurate information, keep your password secret, and tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for what happens in your account and in the child profiles and classes you create. Grown-ups should supervise young children when they use the internet.
3. Acceptable use
When you use Crayonbird, please don’t:
- share anyone’s personal information, including your own, in community sheets, titles, flashcards or public names;
- upload or share anything illegal, hateful, violent, sexual or bullying, or anything else unsuitable for children;
- share content you don’t have the right to share;
- pretend to be someone else, or create accounts for people without their permission;
- try to break, overload or scrape the site, get around its security, or get into other people’s accounts or classes;
- use Crayonbird to advertise, to collect information about users or to contact children;
- resell or republish our sheets and printables (see Intellectual property).
We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules (see Ending your account).
4. Children’s safety
Crayonbird has no chat or private messages, no public profiles for children and no ads. We make or review the library’s content, and we check community sheets before or after they are published. If anything worries you about a child’s safety, use the report button or write to [email protected] straight away. We remove material that puts children at risk, and we report it to the police or other authorities where the law requires or a child may be in danger.
5. The community library
Teachers can share sheets they made in the community library. Sheets from new sharers are reviewed before they appear; once a teacher has had several sheets approved, their new sheets appear straight away and we check them afterwards. Each shared sheet shows the teacher’s public name.
What you promise. When you share a sheet, you confirm that you made it or are free to share it, that it contains no one’s personal information, and that it is accurate and suitable for the ages you chose.
The licence you give. You keep ownership of your sheet. You allow everyone to use, copy and adapt it for free, non-commercial purposes with credit to you, under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 licence (CC BY-NC 4.0). You also give Crayonbird a worldwide, free, non-exclusive licence to host, copy, format (for example as PDFs, previews or other languages), show and distribute it in Crayonbird and to promote it (for example in search engines or our automatic social-media posts), for as long as it is shared and for a reasonable time afterwards for backups and caches. You can stop sharing at any time; copies others already made under the CC licence may remain.
Reporting a sheet. Signed-in users can use the Report button on any community sheet and choose a reason: mistakes, inappropriate content, personal information, copyright, spam or something else. Anyone, signed in or not, can also report by email to [email protected]. Please include the link to the sheet, why you think it is wrong or illegal, your name and email address (except when reporting child sexual abuse material, which you may report anonymously), and a statement that your report is accurate and made in good faith. For copyright, tell us which work of yours is affected.
What happens next. We review reports promptly, carefully and fairly. A sheet that receives several reports is hidden automatically until we have checked it. If we hide or remove a sheet or limit someone’s sharing, we tell the teacher why and how to ask us to look again, by writing to [email protected]. We tell the person who reported it what we decided. We may stop people who repeatedly share infringing or unsuitable content from sharing, and we may ignore reports that are clearly unfounded.
6. Intellectual property and printables
Crayonbird’s sheets, generators, illustrations, stories, texts and software are original works made by or for Crayonbird, unless an item says otherwise. The Crayonbird name and logo are ours.
Your printables licence. You may use, download, print and copy our sheets and printables for:
- your own children and family;
- the students in your own classes or tutoring groups, including through your school’s private learning platforms.
You may not sell them, put them in products or paid packs, post them on other websites or marketplaces, remove our name, or use them to train AI models. Community sheets follow their own licence (see above).
Your content. Drawings, writing, flashcards and sheets that you or your children make stay yours. You let us store them and show them to you and to the people you choose (such as your child’s teacher), only to run the service.
7. The quiz maker
The AI tools (the quiz maker, lesson plans, flashcards and practice from a document) use an AI model to write learning material about a topic: either a chosen AI provider, such as Anthropic or OpenAI, which receives only the request and no personal information, or a model on our own server. What they write is made by AI and is marked that way. Topics pass through a safety filter, but AI can make mistakes: please check everything before using it in class. Don’t type personal information into the topic or the notes.
8. Plans and payments
The free plan is free and needs no card; it includes a small one-time allowance to try Crayonbird, which does not refill. Paid plans may not be offered yet; while they are not, everyone gets every feature for free. When paid plans are available, these rules apply:
- Who sells. Plans are sold by Crayonbird. Payments are processed by our payment provider Bachs (bachs.io). Your card details go straight to Bachs; we never see or store them.
- Price. The price, the billing period (monthly or yearly) and any tax are shown before you pay. You pay for the first period when you subscribe, unless the offer shown to you before checkout says otherwise.
- Automatic renewal. Plans renew automatically at the end of each month or year, at the price shown to you, and your card is charged until you cancel. We email you 7 days before a yearly plan renews, and we will tell you in advance about any price increase.
- Cancel at any time. Cancel online in your account (Your plan → Cancel plan, then confirm) or in the billing portal. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for, and you won’t be charged again.
- Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, we email you and the payment is tried again over the next few days while your plan stays on. If it still can’t be collected, the plan ends.
- 7-day refund, only if unused. At checkout you ask for your plan to start straight away. You can get a full refund within 7 days of your first payment, but only if no paid content (prints, downloads, sheets played or made, lessons, lesson plans, check-ups, books or packs) has been used on your account, including by your children or students. Use the “Request a refund” button in your account or write to [email protected]. Once paid content has been used, or after 7 days, this refund no longer applies.
- Other refunds. Otherwise we don’t refund part of a period, unless the law gives you a right to a refund or the service did not work as described.
- Changes. If we change a plan in a way that is significantly worse for you, we will tell you beforehand, and you can cancel and get a refund for the unused part of a prepaid period.
9. Availability and changes to the service
We work hard to keep Crayonbird running and accurate, but we can’t promise it will always be available or free of errors. We may improve, change or remove features. If we ever close Crayonbird, we will give account holders at least 30 days’ notice so they can download their data, and refund any prepaid, unused part of a paid plan.
10. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from your privacy page or your account settings. We may suspend or close an account, or remove content, if it breaks these terms or the law, puts a child at risk, or if the law requires us to. Unless it would be unsafe or unlawful, we will tell you why and how to ask us to reconsider. If we close an account with a paid plan for reasons that are not your fault, we refund the unused part.
11. Our responsibility for content
Crayonbird’s sheets, answers, reports and quiz maker are learning aids. They don’t replace the judgement of a parent or teacher, and we don’t promise any particular learning result. Community sheets are made by teachers, not by us, and they are responsible for them, although we review them and remove them when needed.
12. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any liability that cannot legally be limited, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence or for fraud, or your rights as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.
If you are a consumer: we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, for loss caused by events outside our reasonable control, or for business losses.
If you use Crayonbird for a business or organisation (for example a school or a tutoring business): as far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profits, data or opportunities, and our total liability is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and 100 US dollars.
13. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in your local courts where the law allows. Please contact us first at [email protected]: most problems can be solved quickly by talking.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when our service or the law changes. For important changes, we will tell account holders by email or in the app at least 30 days before they take effect, unless a change is needed sooner for legal or safety reasons. If you don’t agree, you can stop using Crayonbird and delete your account, and cancel a paid plan with a refund for the unused part. The current version is dated 17 October 2026.
15. Other legal points
If a court finds part of these terms invalid, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce a right straight away, we can still do so later. We may transfer our rights and duties under these terms to an organisation that takes over Crayonbird; we will tell you, and it won’t reduce your rights. These terms exist in several languages; if they differ, the English version applies, unless the law of your country says otherwise.
16. Contact
Write to [email protected] for questions and reports, or to [email protected] for privacy. This email is also our single point of contact for users and authorities under the EU Digital Services Act. You can write in English or in any language of the site. Postal address: Crayonbird, available on request by email.
