Preschool Worksheets for Ages 3–5

  • Ages 3–5
  • Free to print
  • Many play on screen

Preschool sheets should feel like play with a pencil, not like school. Everything here is made for three- to five-year-olds: big pictures, few items per page and one clear task. There is counting to five and then ten, simple shapes to find and colour, lines and letters to trace, first mazes with wide paths and picture puzzles that train careful looking.

More about this collection

A good preschool session lasts as long as your child’s attention, which at this age is often five to ten minutes. Sit next to them, read the instruction aloud and let them choose the colours. If a sheet is too hard, switch to an easier one without fuss; if it is too easy, they will tell you by racing through it. Either way you learn what to offer next time.

Use the age filter to narrow things down: the 3–5 pages are gentle, while some sheets stretch up to age 6 for children who are ready for more. The free activity books, such as Ocean Friends and My First ABC Tracing Book, bundle twenty or so of these pages into one printable workbook, which is handy for a week of mornings or a long journey.

How to use these

  1. Offer two sheets and let your child choose one: choice keeps them keen.
  2. Read the instruction aloud and point to the first example together.
  3. Praise effort and careful work, not just right answers.
  4. Stop after one or two pages, before tiredness sets in.

Questions and answers

How many worksheets should a preschooler do a day?

One or two short sheets are plenty. Play, talk, stories and time outdoors teach just as much at this age, so treat worksheets as one small part of the day.

What should a 4-year-old be able to do?

Children vary a lot. Many 4-year-olds can count a few objects, name some colours and shapes, and hold a crayon to draw lines and circles. If you have concerns about development, talk to your health visitor or doctor.

Are these printables free?

Yes. Every sheet marked Free can be printed or played as often as you like, at home or in class. Premium activity books are marked.

How do I print a sheet?

Open a sheet and choose Print. It fits A4 and US Letter paper. Most sheets can also print with an answer key on a separate page.

Can children do them on a tablet?

Most can: press Play to answer on screen with instant marking and stars. Colouring and drawing pages can be done with a finger or stylus too.
