New Year Activities and Printables for Kids
In 79 days
The New Year on 1 January is a natural moment to look back and to plan ahead. These printables help children do both: a goals sheet for the year, New Year word searches and spelling games, fireworks colouring, a letter template and the New Year Countdown activity book. Teens will find habit trackers and goal planners too.

Ideas to try
Year in review
Draw your favourite moment from last year and one thing you learned.
Three goals
One to learn, one to practise, one kind thing to do. Write them on the goals sheet.
Countdown maths
Count down from 10, then from 20 in twos, then from 100 in tens.
Time capsule
Write a letter to yourself to open next New Year’s Day.
Fireworks colouring
Use bright colours on a dark background, or try chalk on black paper.
New Year printables
Word puzzles, colouring pages, stories and cards for New Year. Print them or play on screen.
Activity books
Themed workbooks that collect many pages in one printable book.
Good to know
Keep goals small and specific: “read ten minutes every evening” works better than “read more”. Children can review their sheet once a month and colour a box for each goal they kept.
Families who celebrate the New Year at other times, such as Chinese New Year, Nowruz, Rosh Hashanah or the Islamic New Year, can use the goals sheet and letter template just as well.
How to use these
- Keep the goals sheet visible and check it monthly.
- Teens: combine the goals sheet with a habit tracker.
- Use the word search for a quiet New Year’s morning.

Most can: press Play to answer on screen with instant marking and stars. Colouring and drawing pages can be done with a finger or stylus too.
