Rhyme and Sound in Poems

Hear rhyming words and sound words in poems.

Poems play with sounds. Many poems have rhyming words at the ends of lines. Words rhyme when they end with the same sound, like cat and hat, or rain and train.

Some words in poems sound like the noise they describe, such as splash, buzz or pitter-patter. These words help you hear what is happening. Read poems aloud: you will hear the rhymes and the rhythm, like a song.
