The 6, 7 and 9 times tables

Learn the 6, 7 and 9 times tables with handy tricks.

The 6 times table is double the 3 times table: 3 × 8 = 24, so 6 × 8 = 48. For the 9 times table, multiply by 10 and take one group away: 9 × 7 is 70 − 7 = 63.

The 7 times table has fewer tricks, but you already know most of it. You know 7 × 2, 7 × 5 and 7 × 10 from earlier tables. Only 7 × 7 = 49, 7 × 8 = 56 and 7 × 9 = 63 are new, so practise those.

Worked example

9 × 8 =

  1. 10 × 8 = 80.
  2. Take away one 8: 80 − 8 = 72.
