Animal body parts and what they do

See how animal body parts such as beaks, fins and claws help them survive.

Animals have body parts that help them survive. Eyes and ears help them notice danger and find food. Legs, wings and fins help them move. A bird uses its beak to pick up food, and a fish uses gills to breathe under water.

The shape of a body part tells us about its job. A duck has webbed feet for paddling. An eagle has sharp claws, called talons, for catching prey. A giraffe's long neck reaches leaves high up in trees. People copy animal ideas too: flippers for swimming copy a seal's flippers.
