Knowing every fact to 12 × 12 makes bigger calculations fast. The 11 times table up to 9 repeats the digit: 11 × 4 = 44. For 11 × 12, think 10 × 12 + 12 = 132.
The 12 times table is the 10 times table plus the 2 times table: 12 × 7 = 70 + 14 = 84. Remember that facts come in pairs, 7 × 12 is the same as 12 × 7, so there are fewer facts to learn than it seems.
Worked example
12 × 8 =
- 10 × 8 = 80 and 2 × 8 = 16.
- 80 + 16 = 96.
