Nouns name things: teacher, river, kite. Verbs are doing or being words: swim, laugh, is. Adjectives describe nouns: a shiny kite, a deep river.
Adverbs are new. They describe verbs. They tell us how, when or where something happens: she ran quickly, we left early, they played outside. Many adverbs end in -ly.
Knowing word classes helps you build better sentences. Try adding an adjective and an adverb to a plain sentence.
