Logic Puzzles and Brain Teasers for Kids and Teens

  • Ages 6–18
  • Free to print
  • Many play on screen

Logic puzzles are where maths and play meet. Children spot the rule behind a number pattern, work out which item does not belong, fill a sudoku grid so every row and column works, crack a simple code or read numbers in binary. None of it needs a calculator, but all of it needs careful thinking.

More about this collection

The best thing an adult can do is resist giving the answer. Ask “what do you notice?” or “what can you rule out?” instead. When a child gets stuck, solving one more square or one more step together is better than revealing the whole solution.

Younger children can start with number patterns and 4×4 sudoku from around age 6. Teenagers will find binary, ciphers and sequence puzzles that connect to computing and algebra. Many of these puzzles work well for pairs: two heads, talking through a problem, often learn more than one working alone. Answers are always included.

How to use these

  1. Start with 4×4 sudoku before moving to 6×6 and 9×9.
  2. Ask “what do you notice?” rather than giving hints.
  3. Use the answer page to check, not to copy.
