Time intervals

Work out how long something takes and when it ends.

A time interval is how much time passes between a start and an end. To find it, count on from the start time. First jump to the next o'clock, then count the rest.

From 9:35 to 10:20: 9:35 to 10:00 is 25 minutes, and 10:00 to 10:20 is 20 minutes. Altogether that is 45 minutes. To find an end time, add the minutes on to the start time the same way.

Worked example

A film starts at 2:15 and lasts 50 minutes. What time does it end?

  1. 2:15 to 3:00 is 45 minutes.
  2. 50 − 45 = 5 more minutes, so 3:05.

Answer:3:05
