Water is found in many places on Earth: oceans, seas, rivers, lakes, ponds and underground. Most of the Earth's water is in the oceans, and it is salty. Fresh water is in rivers, lakes and underground, and some is frozen in ice and snow.
Water can be a liquid or a solid. Liquid water flows in rivers. Solid water is ice and snow, found on high mountains and near the North and South Poles. Ice melts into water when it warms up. Rain falls from clouds, flows into rivers and streams and runs down to the sea. Maps show water in blue so we can see where it is.
