Tens and ones

See a two-digit number as tens and ones.

A two-digit number is made of tens and ones. In 34, the 3 means 3 tens, which is 30, and the 4 means 4 ones. So 34 is 30 and 4.

Ten ones make one ten. If you have 10 cubes, you can snap them into one tower of ten. Numbers like 10, 20 and 30 are only tens, with 0 ones.
