About this activity

What your child practises

Following steps in order, building a picture from simple shapes and confident pencil control.

What’s included

  • 6 drawing steps
  • Open-ended: no right or wrong answers

Age and school year

Made for ages 6–10. That’s Grade 1–5 in the US, Year 2–6 in England, Primary 1–5 in Nigeria and Class 1–5 in India.

How to use it

  • Print it at home or school – it fits a standard A4 or US Letter page.
  • Write on it on a tablet or touchscreen with a finger or stylus – no printer needed.

Tips for parents and teachers

  1. Invite older children to add their own background, patterns or shading to make the picture theirs.
  2. Print it again and try a different tool: crayons one day, felt-tips or watercolour pencils the next.
  3. Pick a regular time – after a snack, say – so practice becomes a habit rather than a battle.
